RETRACTABLE SEATING FOR KUCOM THEATRE

Kucom is proud to announce the completion of an exciting stage in our theatre development, and we gratefully acknowledge the help of all members, friends, and other interested parties who have joined forces to bring this project to completion.

Why retractable seating?

  • It offers flexible use of the space available, enabling us to accommodate other in-house activities and also to provide a multipurpose venue for other community groups to utilise.

  • Comfortable and optimum viewing for patrons.

Up to November 2023 we were using plastic chairs on a flat floor – definitely not commensurate with comfort or optimal viewing.

The new seating plan has 100 seats in 6 rows with 2 lit aisles. The front row has 16 removable seats, any of which can be removed to accommodate wheelchairs. The seats themselves are fully upholstered and the floor is carpeted. The operation of the retractable seating is fully automatic.

The seating project has taken two years to complete, and cost nearly $80,000. This is a massive amount for a small community group such as ours - we only just made it, so we're grateful for any donations going forward.

We have identified 5 ways in which you and your friends and acquaintances can continue to support this project.  You will become a part of the Kucom story and take your place in the pages of its history:

  1. Adopt a seat (and every theatre audience will know who to thank for their comfortable seating).

  2. A GoFundMe page was set up explaining our project and enabling donations of any size. That page is now inactive.

  3. Corporate donors (have your brand permanently associated with the support of community endeavours, and the Arts in particular).

    • Major or corporate donors who give $500 or more will have their names inscribed on an honour board on permanent display in the foyer of the theatre as a 1-, 2-, 3-, 4- or 5-star donor. So please consider if you know of an individual or business that would be interested in donating to this community group and we will contact them.

  4.  Simon’s Vortex (everyone can take part - empty the loose change from your pocket and purse the next time you or your children visit Kucom Theatre).

    • Whenever you visit the theatre, you will find ‘Simon’s Vortex’ in the foyer. Loose change down the vortex has provided plenty of fun for contributors as the coin rolls down the side chute and spins till it drops. Every little helps and all contributions are gratefully received.

  5. Containers for Change. Consider donating your refunds from can and bottle recycling to Kucom. Simply write Kucom’s number (C10180165) on your bag of bottles/cans when you drop them at a facility near you.

DONOR ENTITLEMENTS

Adopt a seat

As part of the fundraising for this seating package, we are offering, for the donation of $150, the opportunity for you to ‘adopt’ a seat and have an engraved name plate (with your name or that of a loved one in memorial) attached to the seat. The number of the seat will be allotted by means of a draw.

For $200 you may ‘adopt’ a seat (with nameplate) and pick your own number (if it is available).

The draw for remaining numbers will be made ASAP after the chosen seats are allocated.

Adoption of a seat does not guarantee your use of that particular seat at all shows (this would make bookings very difficult) so we encourage you to book early for shows if you would like to sit in your adopted seat (or behind it if you want to see your name during the show).
